Tasty new pieces in the shop

Last friday this little guy moved into the shop in Møntergade; along him came Louise Degn who is the 'baker'. Louise will be working in the shop and her beautiful pieces of jewelry can be found here. Louise is trained as a goldsmith and have developed a series of playful and humorous jewelry, using gold, silver and precious stones.

Snow Drops

Beauty, simplicity and the flora of the Nordic countries is the starting point of my new series of jewelry. Little elegant buds in polished or oxidized silver to remind us that even though the winter is long, cold and dark, it is filled with bright moments and spring WILL return once again.

All pieces are produced by hand at the workshop in Copenhagen; some in series and some in one-offs. Stop by the shop to see some more models.

Necklace, sterling silver, from 4500.-
Necklace, Oxydized silver and Tahitipearl, price on request.

Blickfang

'Blickfang' is a German design event that has taken place in some of the largest German cities over the last decade. Now Copenhagen has the pleasure of hosting a Danish version of the design event and I've got my expectations very high.
Danish design had it's glory throughout the 50ties and seem to struggle to move on from there. A lot of the larger companies producing home ware and interior play it safe and instead of engaging new designers, they take up old and safe products, eventually change the colors, and relaunch them to the sentimental Danish consumers: for example is the company '&Tradition's newest product this year, a sofa designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1939.
All though Jacobsen was a master and his sofa probably is both elegant, beautiful and well designed; we need to support the designers of the time we live in, in order to keep innovation flow and build masters for the future.
Blickfang provides a forum that has been missing at the design scene in our region and I hope it will turn into an yearly success in Copenhagen.

I'll support the new event and will be showing some of my latest work in Øksnehallen 9.-11. november. I hope to meet a lot of talents from all over Europe and look forward to speak to galleries, retailers and customers interested in design products of our time.

More spoons

I can't help it, I'm still as enthusiastic about spoons as I have always been; even after being surrounded by spoons the last month or so. I felt a little sad taking down the exhibition 'SPÅN' and therefore I thought It could last a little longer here; so enjoy my snapshots along with the fine texts by Thomas Oldrup. (Sorry that it's in Danish; I hope Google translate is your friend)

”Twins”

”Feeding the birds”

”Engangsbestik”
How low can we go?

Tænk lige over dét, når du går i seng i aften.
”Grenskeer”

I would be delighted to see you at the opening of the exhibition 'Spån'. The private view will be held August 23th from 4 to 7 p.m. in my shop in Møntergade.

The spoon is just a simple tool that does not make much fuss, but spoons have a very special place in my heart and with this exhibition I will try to share that passion with you.
The spoon is lovable because of its friendly and feminine nature, with its round leaf as a head and its long shank as a body it resembles a small person.
The spoon represents, for example, the regular everyday life and have always done it, it is an object we all handle on a daily basis and even put in our mouths.
The spoon is the first tool we learn to handle and thus it is the spoon that separates humans from animals, as we have learned the good manners so we can consume our food in a civilized manner. To elevate the spoon to be a symbol of the culture we have created is perhaps going a little too far, but through my work I want to put more focus on this little creature being placed above the plate and signals that there will be something sweet after the main course.

As an opposition to the use-and throw-away culture, I want to create unique objects that speak to the senses and generates joy through daily use. My spoons are made by hand and must be experienced by hands: therefore I have called the show 'Spån'. Spån is Danish for chip and refers of course to the manufacturing process and in addition, the English word 'Spoon' is a derivation of the word 'spån'.

The exhibition is a part of the Sct. Loye event arranged by the Guild of Jewellers in Copenhagen. A list of the other exhibitions can be seen here.

A brooch for a queen

In connection with Queen Elizabeth's diamond jubilee, I was trusted to make a brooch which was given to her when she, on her trip around the country, visited the town of Exeter. The brooch was designed by the Danish couple behind Studio RoSo whom I met during my studies at The Royal College of Art. The two designers has just designed a very beautiful piece of art to be installed in the town of Exeter, and the brooch was a miniature part of this sculptural representation of a tree.
The many polished facets was a great challenge to my craftsmanship, but with a good deal of patience and technical skills the brooch was successfully completed and the queen was indeed happy when she received it at May 2nd in Exeter.

Green and Black

Yesterday I felt very lucky to sneak peak into Gurli's oven full of lovely green and black ceramic teapots and an amazing one-off. It was an exciting moment when the lid was lifted revealing a well full of unbroken pieces, nothing exploded or discolored. The little penguins looked very curious to get out of their warm nest.
The processes of making ceramics is very different from the ones I know, and I have the deepest respect for Gurli's skills, especially her knowledge on experimental glazing.
Here is a film on her series of black teapots and how they are made, we are so lucky as to have a few for sale in the shop.

Trollbeads and a nice cup of tea

I'm now officially a designer of Trollbeads. This friday my first three beads was launched for the Danish company Trollbeads. In the spring collection 2012 I have carried on working with tableware, however now at a really small scale, focusing on the joy of warm drinks.
'Tea is a fine drink; It'll keep you going' Dame Judy Dench says in the film 'The Shipping News'. I absolutely love that line and I always find that serving hot drinks to a friend is a gesture of care and solicitude.

It has been overwhelming to follow the positive response to the launch on all social media and I hope that a lot of people will enjoy 'a cuppa' and a home baked gugelhupf.
